Marissa Shandell

I am a PhD candidate in Management and Organizational Behavior at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. I am interested in understanding the psychological and social forces that drive employees to feel and do their best at work.

My research program concentrates on two streams: employee well-being (e.g., burnout, workaholism, perfectionism) and social motivation at work (e.g., motivation contagion between colleagues). My research investigates fundamental questions about the conditions that enable employees to work not only harder, but also smarter and healthier.

Prior to my doctoral studies, I was an associate partner at McKinsey & Company, where I spent several years serving financial services clients on a wide range of topics. I also spent time on McKinsey’s People Analytics team. I received my BS in Economics from Wharton, with concentrations in Management and Finance.
